Child Support Lawyers
If you have recently separated and you have children with your ex-partner, you may be eligible to either receive or be assessed to pay child support payments for your children’s benefit. For assistance in these matters, a child support lawyer can guide you through the process so you can explore all available options.
Child Support Scheme
The aim of the Child Support Scheme is to provide for the continued maintenance and support for the children of the relationship. The Scheme also aims to minimise parental conflict over financial arrangements. It is important to keep these objectives in mind when approaching the issue of child support payments.
Much like every other aspect of family law, child support can be an emotive and fragile topic to broach. At New Way Lawyers, our experienced child support lawyers will guide you through the process of either coming to an agreement with your spouse about payment of – or applying for – child support. Our approach is always with the core understanding that the family unit should be preserved to the greatest extent possible. We do not believe in an adversarial approach and will handle your matter with dignity, compassion, and respect.
You Are Not Alone
We understand that child support can make an enormous difference to single parents who are grappling not only with the emotional implications of separation but also the added financial obligations that come with it. We aim to make this process as smooth as possible for you.
Child support payments can occur in a number of different ways including by way of:
- Lump sum payments;
- Periodic payments;
- Non-periodic payments.
How can we help?
A child support lawyer can provide advice to you regarding the above process, including:
- Providing advice about child support arrangements
- Drafting and advising on Limited Child Support Agreements
- Drafting and advising on Binding Child Support Agreements
To determine the approach most suitable to you, call us for a free consultation with one of our experienced solicitors.
Reaching an agreement
Unless the parties are able to reach an agreement, the Department of Human Services will calculate the amount of child support owed to the primary carer. Whenever possible it is best to reach agreement about child support arrangements.
We can assist you both in determining the type and amount of child support relevant to your situation and attempting to reach an agreement in this regard.
Happy clients
I want to thank you for the way you have managed things for me. I came to you distressed and I found the right person to manage my case. I needed an educated and savvy lawyer with a calm disposition and that is what I got. Your ability to keep me calm but to still be able to strongly advocate for me has been exceptional. We have been largely successful in protecting the children and keeping them out of ‘grown up business’ and that is a huge relief. I think it was the last letter you wrote that shifted the dynamics. Thank you for being a kind and moral man who can assert the law so very well! I truly believe that you and the company you work for, are making a difference. I have had nothing but positive experiences, from my initial phone call, admin staff, students and you! I am regularly working with women in very difficult circumstances and I will not hesitate to refer to New Way Lawyers for legal advice and representation.

I could not have gotten through this year without New Way Lawyers. After one consultation with Ryan I knew that he and the staff there know everything there is to know about family law. I highly recommend them.
They have supported me and helped me put things in place so that I can be the best version of myself and the best mum I can be.
