What is Settle Together?

Settle Together brings together a range of family law tools and resources into a single service offering that can be delivered by one lawyer to both parties.

Through Settle Together a couple has access to all the resources and tools needed to resolve parenting, child support, property and financial matters as well as their actual divorce. Incorporating, information, advice, collaboration, mediation, documentation and post resolution support such as parenting coordination, Settle Together provides a comprehensive and cost-effective service offering for amicable couples.

Why was Settle Together started?

Settle Together was created because the current approaches for resolving family law matters are flawed. The system entrenches the parties in conflict from the start, pushing them to separate lawyers who advocate competing positions, which can result in heightened and escalated conflict.

Settle Together uses a non-adversarial model of dispute resolution that aims to draw parties together, toward resolution, rather than pushing them apart. Key to Settle Together is the fact that parties work together with a single lawyer rather than two separate lawyers to find a holistically beneficial outcome.

How can Settle Together help?

Settle Together offers 3 specific service streams – these are parenting, child support and property and finances.

Parenting

Our parenting stream focuses on resolution of post separation parenting arrangements for children, including how major parenting decisions relating to health and education are made, living and care arrangements, special time and holiday arrangements, travel arrangements and other specific issues.

The parenting stream can be offered as child inclusive, when children are older and able to express views and wishes about parenting arrangements, or alternatively as a standard offering without the child inclusive component.

Child Support

Through our child support stream, arrangements for the ongoing financial support and maintenance of children are addressed and resolved. This may include periodic support payments, education expenses, extracurricular activities, medical and health-related costs, and other special or unforeseen expenses. Where appropriate, arrangements may also extend to the maintenance of adult children.

Property & Financial

Resolution of property and financial arrangements, including the tailored division of assets and liabilities, superannuation splitting, and the treatment of business entities, trusts, and self-managed superannuation funds occurs through our property and finances stream.

Where appropriate, advice from valuers, accountants, and financial planners can be incorporated to ensure taxation implications and broader financial planning considerations are properly addressed
